Our Instructors

Our dedicated instructors bring years of military and aerospace experience to mentor, train, and inspire cadets. While SFJROTC is a cadet-led program, our instructors provide guidance, structure, and expertise to ensure cadets develop strong leadership and problem-solving skills.

Lieutenant Colonel Jason Kimbel

Lt Col Jason Kimbel is the Senior Aerospace Science Instructor at Durango High school, Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, Las Vegas Nevada. He is responsible for academic, leadership and physical conditioning education for cadets in our program. Colonel Kimbel graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in June 1993 with a degree in Astronautical Engineering.

His assignments included Los Angeles AFB, California; Schriever AFB Colorado; Nellis AFB Nevada, Air Force Institute of Technology in Dayton, Ohio; and National Reconnaissance Office in Chantilly, Virginia. Some of his duties included developing state-of-the-art focal plane and cryocooler hardware, first Air Force Launch Director for two communications satellites; lead of the initial F-22 Electronic Warfare Operational Test and Evaluation team, senior systems engineer on the National SIGNIT satellite constellation.

After retiring from the Air Force Colonel Kimbel was the program manager for the Joint Data Network Support Team, distributing ISR data onto tactical data links, connecting satellite information to front-line units. Colonel Kimbel assumed his current position as SASI in September 2021.

Chief Master Sergeant Tim Jordan

CMSgt Timothy V. Jordan is an Aerospace Science Instructor at Durango High school, Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, Las Vegas Nevada. He is responsible for academic, leadership and physical conditioning education for cadets in our program. Chief Jordan entered the Air Force September 1981, where he attended a communications maintenance course at Keesler AFB.

His active duty assignments in order, were Mt. Hebo Air Force Station, Oregon; Wallace Air Station, Republic of the Philippines. Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona; City of Pirmasens, Germany; Keesler AFB Mississippi, Lajes Field Azores (Portugal), again Keesler AFB Mississippi, and finally Nellis AFB Nevada. In 1998, then MSgt Jordan cross-trained and became a First Sergeant and continued in this career until his retirement. Chief Jordan deployed three times in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, directly supporting mission in Qatar, Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan, and the Horn of Africa.

Chief Jordan retired from active duty in September 2011 as a Chief Master Sergeant and assumed his current position as ASI in September 2011.

Master Sergeant Jicela Orr

MSgt Jicela Orr is an Aerospace Science Instructor at Durango High school, Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, Las Vegas Nevada. She is responsible for academic, leadership and physical conditioning education for cadets in our program. MSgt Orr entered the Air Force May 2002, where she attended a logistics management course at Lackland AFB.

Her assignments included Warner Robins AFB, Georgia; Dyess AFB , Texas; Lackland JBSA, Texas and finally Nellis AFB, Nevada. In 2013, MSgt Orr stepped outside of her career-field to become a Military Training Instructor for pipe-line civilians seeking the opportunity and privilege to join the ranks in becoming an Airman in the World’s Greatest Air Force. MSgt Orr deployed eight times in support of Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, and Operation New Dawn directly supporting mission’s in Qatar, Kyrgyzstan, Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan, and Jordan.

MSgt Orr retired from active duty in May 2022 as a Master Sergeant and assumed her current position as an ASI in March 2022.
