What is Space Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (SFJROTC)?
SFJROTC is a leadership and aerospace education program designed to develop discipline, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. It is not a military recruitment program, and most cadets do not enlist after high school.
Do I have to join the military if I enroll in SFJROTC?
No, SFJROTC is not a direct pipeline to the military. While cadets gain leadership and aerospace knowledge that can be useful in a military career, most cadets pursue college or civilian careers after high school.
Who is eligible to join Space Force JROTC at Durango High School?
To join, students must be enrolled at Durango High School, be in good academic and behavioral standing, and meet basic physical qualifications.
Can I join if I am in another activity or sport?
Yes! Not only is it encouraged for cadets to be involved with other activities and groups, but cadets can earn award ribbons for additional involvements.
Can I join SFJROTC if I have no prior military experience or training?
Yes, no prior experience is needed. The program is designed to teach leadership, aerospace science, and discipline to all students, regardless of background
Can I participate in other school activities?
Yes! Many cadets are involved in sports, clubs, and other extracurricular activities. The program allows students to balance their schedules while still participating in SFJROTC. Cadet’s can earn award ribbons for participating in other school activities.
Can I transfer into SFJROTC from another JROTC program?
Yes, transfer cadets from other JROTC units may be accepted with full credit for previous training. However, cadets will initially be awarded one rank lower than their previous position, and officer ranks will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis
Do I have to wear a uniform?
Yes, Cadets are required to wear the designated uniform on uniform wear days, which is usually on Wednesdays. Cadets will be issued a Blue uniform, a polo shirt, and depending on their position in the program a utility uniform. New cadets won’t wear the Blue uniform until the 2nd Quarter.
What happens if I don’t meet program requirements?
Cadets who fail to meet academic, behavioral, or uniform standards may receive warnings, be placed on probation, or be removed from the program. Multiple infractions can lead to disqualification.
Are there benefits to completing multiple years in SFJROTC?
Yes, cadets who complete three or four years of the program earn a certificate that provides a rank and pay bump if they choose to enlist in the military after high school
